Aftercare advice - skincare and beauty

Gel Nails

NEVER Pick, Pull or Bite

This will likely cause the gel to be forcefully removed from the natural nail, bringing with it layers of nail, this can result in weakened or damaged nails.

Protect Your Nails

Whether working in the garden or doing cleaning around the house, wearing gloves can protect your nails from dehydrating detergents and harmful bleaches; resulting in longer lasting wear and shine.

Keep Regular Appointments

Nails grow quick, and after only a week or two you will begin to notice some significant regrowth. It is recommended that you have an appointment every 2 to 3 weeks - to help maintain cuticle health, the health of the natural nail and to have the gel product removed and/or reapplied.

Removal

Removal is an important part of nail health and safety and should always be done by a qualified therapist; who can safely remove the gel or polish without damaging the natural nail plate.

Brow Services

A little TLC is required over the first 24 - 48hrs after your brow treatment and we have written a guideline with a few tips to help you maintain and keep your brows looking amazing.

For 24 hours after your brow service, avoid touching your brows (this includes the skin around the brows)

Avoid contact with direct sunlight, sunbeds, saunas, gyms, steam rooms and swimming pools for the next 48 hours. Look out for opening a hot oven door too, as hot steam can come rushing out.

Avoid using exfoliating (be it AHA, BHA or scrubs) and anti-ageing skincare around the brow area for three days either side of your treatment.

Avoid fake tanning products (including gradual tan) on the face for three days either side of your treatment, as it can discolour the eyebrow tint

Put the tweezers down! Even removing one hair can change the shape and style of your brow. Your therapist may also have put you on a re-growth plan, so any growth ready for your next treatment is good.

Redness after eyebrow waxing and eyebrow threading is completely normal and a common side effect. It’s simply a slight irritation of the follicle from where the hair has been removed and should subside over the course of the day.

Although redness, bumps and slight sensitivity are completely normal, it’s important to contact your therapist immediately if you experience any swelling, itchy rashes, bruising, grazes or cuts.

CACI

After the treatment it is common for the area to feel warm, you may also experience some redness, swelling and tenderness in the treated area.

These symptoms may appear immediately or a few days post treatment.

It is important for your safety and for a successful treatment that you follow the below recommendations.

48 Hours Post Treatment

Do not pick or scratch or touch the treated area.

Avoid all creams, soaps, perfumed products or lotions on the treated area only use products recommended by your therapist.

Avoid all heat treatments such as steam, hot baths/ shower, sauna, excessive exercise and swimming.

A cold compress can be applied to the area to remove any heat remaining in the skin.

If the area remains sensitive after 48hours please continue the above advice until the treated area returns to normal.

If concerned, please contact the salon.

Avoid use of AHA, BHA, Retin A/ Retinol for a minimum of 7 days or until skin normalises.

Upto 30 Days After Treatment

Avoid exposure to UV sunlight this includes sunbeds

You should continue to use a high SPF on the skin, when outside SPF 50 is recommended.

Excessive sun exposure may result in skin colour changes (hypo/ hyper pigmentation).

Always contact the salon with any concerns or questions.

Waxing

Wait at least 12 hours before taking a shower

The waxed area should be kept clean, and heat and friction avoided for 24 hours.

Avoid tanning immediately after waxing and wear sunscreen.

Avoid heavy exercise for at least 10 hours.

Avoid hot baths and showers, saunas, steam rooms and whirlpools for at least 48 hours.

Avoid exfoliating products and loofas for at least 24 hours.

Avoid tight clothing.

After two days you need to start exfoliating just with an exfoliating mitt in light circular motions. Moisturize the area every single day.

Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands.

Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.

Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions or similar products to the area.

Most clients do not experience reactions beyond redness and minor irritation which are all perfectly common, particularly after your first treatment. If these symptoms persist for more than 48 hours or you have any questions, feel free to contact the Novum Team.

Tinting

Don't touch or rub your eyes, eyelashes or eyebrows immediately after your treatment.

Avoid swimming for 24 hours.

Avoid heat treatments or sunbathing for 24 hours. (UV rays will cause your tint to fade).

Don't apply makeup or mascara to lashes/brows.

Keep lashes dry for the rest of the day.

Don't receive any other eye treatments for at least 24 hours after your tinting treatment.

Keep brows and lashes clean and dry for 48 hours.

Do not apply make-up, creams or oils to the treatment area for at least 24 hours after. Oil bases makeup remover can cause tints to fade faster.

Avoid using contact lenses for the rest of the day if eyes have been treated

Skin Treatment

Avoid wearing make-up for at least six hours after a facial treatment.

Always cleanse, tone and moisturise your face. To prevent loss of moisture, protect the skin from make-up and to keep the skin soft and supple.

Always remove all traces of make-up at the end of the day.

Drink plenty of water (we recommend 6-8 glasses per day).

Eat a healthy, balanced diet – include at least five portions of fruit and vegetables.

Do not undertake any other facial skincare treatments within 48 hours of having a facial.

Avoid sunbathing for up to 12 hours.

Brow Lamination

A little TLC is required over the first 24 -4 8hrs whilst your lamination is still settling into place, and we have written a guideline with a few tips to help you maintain and prolong the life of your lamination. By following this aftercare, your lamination should usually last 6-8 weeks (it’s important to make sure your previous lamination has completed dropped before your next lamination)

For 24 hours after your Lash Lift, avoid getting your brows wet

Avoid applying heavy makeup (foundations, etc) on the area around the brow for 24 hours

Avoid contact with direct sunlight, sunbeds, saunas, steam rooms and swimming pools for the next 48 hours.

Avoid using exfoliating (be it AHA, BHA or scrubs) and anti-ageing skincare around the brow area for three days either side of your treatment.

Be gentle, don’t scrub your brows when washing your face

Avoid fake tanning products (including gradual tan) on the face for three days either side of your treatment, as it can discolour the eyebrow tint

Brow lamination does not permanently set your hairs in your desired, brushed up position. It breaks down the bonds in your hair so that you can easily manipulate them into the look you want. All you’ll need to do is brush them back into place with a spoolie brush in the morning to get them back to that fluffy finish – no product required.

To really enhance laminated brows and maintain that freshly laminated look right up until your next appointment, an eyebrow gel is a must have.

Massage

The following advice should be taken following a massage:

Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours, as massage is a detoxifying treatment

Drink plenty of water to assist in the elimination of toxins from the body

Eat a light diet to assist the detoxification and healing process

Get plenty of rest. You may feel tired after treatment

Gentle exercise – postural exercises can help with muscle tension as well as exercises that will assist with mobility. Yoga is a suitable and gentle option.

Do breathing exercises to assist with taking in oxygen to your fullest capacity

Research the possibility of treatment options to assist with stress and other conditions, if necessary.

Occasionally, you may experience any of the following reactions up to 24-48 hours after treatment; this is known as a contra-action and is the body’s response to the treatment:

·         Headache

·         Dizziness or nausea

·         Disrupted sleeping pattern

·         Muscles may feel tired and achy

·         Increased urination or passing stools

·         Increased thirst

·         Fatigue

These reactions are uncommon but perfectly normal and show that toxins are being expelled from the body, so that it may re-balance and cleanse itself.

In the unlikely event that you experience any severe pain or discomfort, please seek advice from your GP.

Micro needling

Rejuvapen micro needling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that stimulates blood circulation and collagen production. After the procedure, it is important to engage in basic hygiene to avoid infection and apply sunscreen daily to help your skin heal.

Avoid applying makeup for at least 24 hours after the procedure

Avoid using active ingredient skin products for a minimum 48 hours after the procedure.

Use a gentle cleanser after your treatment as prescribed by your skin specialist.

Apply ultimate recovery cream after your treatment to nourish the skin. This can be applied every couple of hours. Continue twice a day for the first week to keep the skin moisturised.

Please note that any redness you experience from microneedling will mostly fade within 48 hours. Other symptoms, such as peeling, and breakouts may take slightly longer to resolve. Healing will still be happening under the surface of your skin for upto 6 weeks. If you experience any unusual symptoms or have any concerns, please contact the Novum team.

Lash Lift

A little TLC is required over the first 24 -4 8hrs whilst the lift is still settling into place, and we have written a guideline with a few tips to help you maintain and prolong the life of your Lash Lift. By following this aftercare, your lash lift should usually last between 6-8 weeks (dependant on individual lash growth cycles)

For the first 24 hours after your Lash Lift, do not use mascara and do not allow water to come in to contact with your lashes. Carefully wash around your eyes and avoid hot water. Try not to sleep on your face as this can crush the lashes whilst they are setting over the first day

For 48 hours after your Lash Lift, avoid hot water, steam or sweat (e.g., Saunas, facial steamers, excessive workouts, swimming, very hot steamy showers).

Use a lash nourishing serum/conditioner daily (we sell these and can advise you of products)

Always brush lashes upwards regularly to help maintain lift and shape, especially after sleeping, cleansing the face and applying moisturisers or cosmetics

Be gentle, don’t scrub your eyes when washing your face

Do not use eyelash curlers, as lashes will be delicate after treatment, and could cause breakage

If wearing mascara, use water-based mascara, not a waterproof.

Use any oil-free make-up remover if mascara is worn

Remember, a lash lift procedure is very similar to a hair perm, and as such the hair must be kept well-nourished and treated delicately to avoid breakage/weakening.
